broadway bares 2005

well, i figured since monick blogged about it, i may as well add my two cents.

broadway bares 2005 was a blast.  monick and i met up early and went to dinner at eatery on 9th and 50th, where we laughed some more about old episodes from mtv's the state.  from there, we walked over to roseland, where a hot producer-type guy in a yellow bandana let us in before the rush with our vip passes.

monick had never been and had no idea what to expect, which made this, my third time, that much more exciting (i'd gone by myself the last two times).  the theme for this year's show was "Rxxx, take two and call me in the morning."  all the numbers had to do with doctors, nurses, or medicine, most of them with a very campy twist.

shoshana bean, whom chris and i had seen in wicked over memorial day weekend, sang the opening number "doctor's orders."  (i liked her better in this.)  my favorite number was called "candy strippers," which started with the dancers from la cage aux folles dressed up in candy-themed costumes (with giant-sized lifesavers, smarties, twizzlers ornaments) dancing around to "spoonful of sugar" from mary poppins.

but the highlights of the evening for me were the interstitial skits with david hyde pierce (as dr. niles crane), tim curry (as dr. frank-n-furter) and dr. ruth westheimer (as herself).  the crowd went wild whenever one of them appeared, and each of them in turn had to wait a good two minutes before the audience calmed down enough for them to speak again.  especially fun was a line in tim curry's skit quoting a rocky horror tune, prompting the audience to go berserk, screaming, "SAY IT!  SAY IT!"

after all the performances and the ceremonial check presentation, monick and i tipped some of our favorite dancers and then quickly vacated the area immediately surrounding the catwalks so that we could actually breathe again.  on our way out, i kissed my sexy headsetted boyfriend before walking monick back to her hell's kitchen temporary corporate residence and hopping on the home-bound a train.

not a bad way to spend father's day!
