times square

i've worked in times square for a little over two years, so i'm used to seeing crowds of tourists standing around or taking pictures of various attractions:  the animated billboards, the naked cowboy, the random guys in the spider-man/wonder woman/captain jack sparrow costumes, or a film crew shooting a scene of a victorian knight sword-fighting an imaginary opponent on top of a city bus.

so trust me when i say that it was odd to suddenly find myself walking in front of a line of people standing side-by-side in the summertime sun on the traffic island between seventh avenue and broadway this afternoon.

unusual — but everything made sense once i realized they were all watching the world cup on the television screen above the good morning america studios.  shows you how out of touch i am with the world of pro soccer!

you can't help being the "average" American with little interest in soccer. Ok, sorry for calling you the "average American." I realize that you're anything but.
