sean's visit

it'd been awhlie since sean had come down to new york city for a visit, so we decided it was high time for him to get his ass back down here.  he was only here from friday night through sunday morning, so we crammed as much fun as we could into saturday.

first stop was the central park zoo.  not the most fabulous or gayest place in new york, but i figured it was something different and a good distraction from our troubles.  besides, i hadn't seen the seal feedings in years and really really wanted to go.

after the zoo and a late afternoon walk, i took sean to vinyl diner on ninth avenue, though i hadn't realized the place had been remodeled and relocated a few blocks down.  not surprisingly, sean's favorite feature of the restaurant was the cher-themed restroom — one of four, each decorated in homage to a different diva.

finally, we went on down to burger king the marquis theater in times square to see the drowsy chaperone.  i didn't know anything about the show beforehand, but the word-of-mouth has been incredibly positive.

sean and i had a great time and laughed a lot during the show.  however, upon leaving, we could only really remember one number — "show off," performed by sutton foster.  there are some hysterically clever moments sprinkled throughout, but no emotional journey or investment for the audience whatsoever.  (it's no wicked!)

still, i predict big things for this show.  like avenue q, maybe drowsy chaperone will win "best musical" over the more hyped ones from this season (i.e., jersey boys), and then we'll be able to say that we saw it way back when — for free!  (thanks, as always, to my special man.)
