sweater-eating cat

i moved to a new desk on the 45th floor here at work.  i sit near the real estate department, whom i not only support but also happen to like a lot.  we all listen to a radio that is fixed to 95.5 WPLJ, one of new york city's adult contempory stations.  the station plays an enjoyable mix of eighties songs i grew up with plus more recent easy-listening fare.

on the down side, the station loops through the same ten or twelve current hits every couple hours or so.  in the first week, i memorized nickelback's "photograph" and natasha bedingfield's "unwritten" through sheer repetition.  i even had a dream that featured both of these songs.  at least they're decent tunes.

unfortunately, not all the catchy songs are good.  the worst is the one that, up until this morning, i only knew as "that extremely annoying country break-up ballad."  the only lyrics my mind could focus on:

take your cat that ate my sweater
'cause we have nothing left together...

i finally broke-down and ran a google search because that just didn't seem right.  i mean, really — what kind of cat eats a sweater?  and who would bother writing a whiny bitter song about it?

turns out it's called "you'll think of me" by keith urban.  the actual lyrics:

take your records, take your freedom
take your memories i don't need 'em
take your space and take your reasons
but you'll think of me
and take your cat and leave my sweater
'cause we have nothing left to weather

in fact, i'll feel a whole lot better
but you'll think of me, you'll think of me

so, there you go.  mystery solved.

He's cute and the lyrics aren't so bad. Why you gotta be a hater?
