January 05, 2004state of the world 2004 what a way to start off the new year: the united states is gearing up for the next presidential elections, howard dean is the front-runner for the democratic candidacy, a nasa rover is beaming back pictures of mars' surface, saddam hussein is in u.s. custody, mad cow has been discovered in washington state, another sars case has surfaced in china, and the new england patriots are in the playoffs! yet the front page story on two of the local newspapers this morning is britney's weekend wedding. how absurd is that? today is my first day back at work after two weeks off and everyone, on the train and in the office, seems fairly miserable. and, in less than seven months, i turn thirty. happy new year, everybody!

It truly is ridiculous- out of all the breaking news, the papers choose the Britney story over all. She's an attention hoarding whore ;;) I hope this is no reflection on the rest of 2004.
