good lyrics

for me, a good songwriter will bring me back to a certain time and place.  or maybe the narcissist in me is always looking for my own story in other peoples' lyrics.

anyhow.

and i wasted your time, didn't i? and that's the reason we fight all the time. it's been so long since you've been a friend of mine...

that's liz phair's "friend of mine" off her new self-titled cd. good stuff.

I would agree with your view of effective songwriting. One day, I'd like to collect the songs that would be the soundtrack to my life. (Some of my own, too.)

my signature file used to say, "currently playing on the soundtrack of my life," followed by a few lyrics. one of the lashonhara mixes is named "currently playing...", and my friend chris actually wrote a song called "soundtrack of my life," which is pretty cute. (i may post the lyrics to that eventually.)

i always thought we were so original, coming up with that one, but a simple google search shows that we aren't the first or only ones to coin that particular phrase. ah, well...
